Armacheska Rivero Mesa-Satina, PhD, is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science of the University of the Philippines Mindanao and the current Managing Director of the UP Mindanao AI and Robotics Fablab—the first of its kind in Mindanao, established as a Shared Service Facility by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). She earned her PhD in Computer Science from National Sun Yat-sen University in Taiwan, a Master’s in Information Systems from UP Open University, and a Bachelor’s in Computer Science from UP Mindanao. Her research expertise lies in artificial intelligence, image processing, machine vision, algorithms, and information systems, with a strong focus on applications in agriculture and food technology. She currently leads major projects such as the Durian Dashboard and Analytics Leveraging IoT Systems and AI (DALISAI) and the AI-Based Non-Invasive Grading System for Durian (AIDurian), and has also contributed to national initiatives like the Phil-LiDAR Program and SkAI-Pinas. Dr. Mesa-Satina has published works on computer vision, deep learning, and smart agriculture, including studies on banana and durian grading systems, hyperspectral imaging, and online academic information systems. She continues to mentor students in innovative projects that bridge computer science with local industry needs, particularly in the durian sector, while advancing research that strengthens UP Mindanao’s role in digital agriculture and AI applications.
